About Oman
Introduction
Oman is a member of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) located in the east part of the Arabian Peninsula.
The country is in the process of steady development, though the speed of that is rather slow compared to Dubai in United Arab Emirates (UAE), where its development is remarkable.
In Oman the ratio of foreigners is very low compared to other GCC nations.
Climate
When to visit
November to March is the best time to visit Oman.
Unless you enjoy the gulf heat of over 40 degrees in summer.
It is advised to dress long sleeved baggy shirts and trousers rather than T shirts and shorts considering the culrure of islamic.
Visiting Dhofar during summer (Middle of July to August) is a good idea to experience the rainny season called Khareef which is very popular with arab people.
About town
Most of the owners of stores are foreigners such as Pakistani and Indians.
Omani people are not as strict as other gulf arabs towards foreigners.
Also You can find omani women with their family in the town, parks and beaches which is unlikely to find in the other gulf countries where women mostly stay at home.
Men wear a Disdasha (a shirt dress) with the Omani cap (Kuma) and women wear an Abeyya (a black outer).
Ramadan
It is better to avoid travelling to Oman during Ramadan.
Omani People do not eat and drink from sunrise to sunset. Therefore tourists also should not eat and drink in Public.
It is still possible to eat and drink inside of hotels and you can buy food from supermarket any time of the day in Ramadan.
Also smoking in public is forbiden as well as eating and drinking before the sunset time (Breakfast time).
